Just when I began considering getting a Tumblr account, along comes THIS:

And this isn't new to me at all. I mean, this site (along with buttloads of others) do have lots of rules, but they don't always follow it. This, however, is pretty effing offensive.

Now, don't get me wrong. Tumblr IS a cool site. I just love the ability to create and customize your homepage in so many different and unique ways, a far cry from what we've been reduced to from YouTube. And there are some VERY interesting people on that site, too, who write very intelligent blogs to create awesome gifs/manips and create some really funny and/or insight posts overall. HOWEVER, there are also the idiots. And the problem is that the idiots are the ones getting in the way.

Now, I'm all for freedom of speech and freedom of expression. BUT there is a line between free speech and HATE speech. It's one thing to say you don't like something, but downright say you HATE something or, even worse, hate the PEOPLE associated with that something...or just hate an entire group of people just for being a group of people or express your very extreme and bigoted views on Earth and wish death/slavery to those you don't like (I'd say anything racist, sexist, or homophobic, etc., would cross that line). The problem though is that there doesn't seem to be a lot of action taken in regards to these bigots. And a great example to showcase Tumblr's incompetence is the controversy of Tumblr vs. Dumb Things White People Say (a Tumblr group dedicated to pointing out the stupidity of racist [white] people). The group is run by black people and get heckled to DEATH with extremely racist comments (such as constant shouting of the n-word, wishing death or enslavement or deportation to all blacks, etc.) and was very disgusting. And how did the group react to these insults? With sarcasm, of course. They'd coolly reply back by with comments like "WHOAH, WE GOT A BADASS HERE!" and such...not really offensive, but certainly worthy of settling scores. And guess what? Tumblr sent DTWPS a message saying, "You are being offensive, please calm your tits or we will take you down".

REALLY NOW, TUMBLR? REALLY NOW? YOU'RE HELPING OUT THE RACIST TARDS AND NOT THE ACTUAL VICTIMS?

Eh, whatever. Maybe once DTWPS replies to Tumblr saying, "Hey, WE'RE the ones being bullied, why don't you help us out and prevent these bigots from attacking us?" they'll prioritize.

Oh hey, DTWPS DID reply back and explain the situation. So, did Tumblr get the message and help them out?

Nope.

They continued to threaten to take down the group for replying justly to their evil bigotted bullies.

SERIOUSLY, TUMBLR? YOU'RE ACTUALLY THAT RACIST?!

Ugh. >.<

What's even worse is how effing inconsistent these people are. Sometimes they DO follow their own darn policy and take offensive stuff down, sometimes they don't. Seriously, they're like a younger version of YouTube, a sight that's meant to be a haven for insight and creativity but sometimes the good stuff gets taken down for the most asinine reasons and the bad stuff doesn't always get down at all.

Now, one thing that's important to know is that Tumblr is NOT a corporate site. It's independently owned/operated. And while I DO support independent companies over corporations, the problem is that this case shows how these group of individuals just so HAPPEN to be racist and don't even give a darn about their own rules.

So yeah...this is unacceptable. Things need to change. Not TOO drastically so that it prevents positive freedom of speech/expression on that site, but enough to stop the negative speech/expression. Otherwise, Tumblr, a place that's supposed to be a safe haven for creative and intelligent or fun-loving individuals will become a festering pit of bigots and bullies. You can help the cause by signing the petition and spreading the word.
